21st Century Leaders
21st Century Leaders is a unique charity artwork project. The concept is simple. We gather artworks from leaders in all fields; royalty, film, music, noble peace laureates, sports, literature etc. Each ambassador donates a symbol of hope, a self portrait and a message of hope for the future.
These artworks are being used to create products, initially charity wristbands, clothing, tableware, ethical cosmetics and stationary released on the 21CL label. The goal of 21st Century Leaders charitable brand is to sell ‘merchandise with a meaning’. All products are manufactured under fair working conditions and are sold to raise funds for charitable causes chosen by each contributing leader.
100% of net profits are donated to charity. The aim is to raise a minimum of $3 million over three years to fund charitable projects in developing countries, contribute to the protection of the environment and other charitable causes.
Practical Presents
Practical Presents - for people struggling to think of the perfect present for the person who has everything.
Practical Action works hand in hand with local communities to provide sustainable solutions to poverty. And because Practical Action’s projects are sustainable, they go on working for years to come.
Practical Presents is a range of 15 gift ideas that not only offer you a chance to buy a unique gift for someone, but also make a real, long lasting difference to communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The gifts range from £10 right up to £5,000 and include a goat, a bicycle ambulance, a bee-keeping business and also, training to help farmers administer vital medicine to animals such as llamas and alpacas – each one of our 15 different gift ideas will truly help transform the lives of people in the developing world.
Sight Savers International
• Globally, every five seconds a person goes blind
• 37 million people in the world today are blind
• Nine out of ten blind people live in the developing world
• 75% of global blindness can be prevented or cured
The statistics on blindness are staggering. But people do not go blind by the million, they go blind one by one, and for each person the impact is enormous. Poverty and blindness are a formidable combination, depriving many people in the developing world of basic human rights. Loss of sight often results in social exclusion, making blind people vulnerable to abuse, poverty and early death. Less than half of all children who lose their sight will survive to adulthood. The figures appear overwhelming, yet providing help is simple.
For over 50 years, Sight Savers International has been working with local partners to combat blindness in developing countries and support people who are blind. During this time, we have helped restore sight to more than five million people and treat over 70 million for potentially blinding conditions. Through partners, we support people who are blind, providing education, counselling and training.
Sight Savers support reaches the people who need it most – individuals living in some of the poorest countries in the world. We work with local partners in 32 countries in the developing world to ensure that services are developed that are appropriate to local needs. The overwhelming majority of blindness is unnecessary: it can be prevented or cured. With your support, Sight Savers’ programmes will continue to transform the lives of those affected by blindness.
Sight Savers has helped restore sight to over five million people and treat over 70 million for potentially blinding conditions. For someone who is blind, the gift of sight is the greatest gift of all. We believe that sight is a basic human right, and that everyone - including those in the world’s poorest countries - should have access to the treatment and eye care that they need.
Our work is important because, as well as providing treatment that can help to restore sight, we also assist with the rehabilitation of those who are irreversibly blind - thereby helping them to make a better future for themselves.
So, instead of adults who cannot support their families becoming helpless in their community, we work with our partners to teach them how to be productive. Although their future may still be hard, at least they will be better equipped to provide for themselves and their children. The effect of our work and your support will be seen for generations to come.
